«El artista y panadero juarense Jorge "Yorch" Pérez encuentra poesía en retratar la protesta social y la identidad fronteriza a través de sus dos grandes pasiones: el arte y el pan. Pérez es miembro fundador del colectivo de arte binacional Colectivo Rezizte, activo en la frontera desde 2003.
La semana pasada, inauguró un nuevo mural llamado “Debajo del puente” en el muro de concreto de la ribera justo al oeste del puente Paso del Norte. La inspiración para el mural, que muestra un par de manos que se extienden desde los puentes a ambos lados de la frontera para agarrarse, surgió del problema actual de la migración y lo que Pérez llama el "rechazo total" de las personas desesperadas por ingresar a los Estados Unidos.
“El pan es una tradición milenaria. El pan es una excelente representación de la migración de personas, las recetas, todo lo que tiene que ver con el movimiento de personas”, dijo. En 2019, Pérez abrió su propia panadería, que lleva el nombre del colectivo de arte, en la Avenida 16 de Septiembre. Panadería Rezizte apoya directamente a los migrantes donando pan casi a diario a varios albergues de Juárez. Pérez también ha ofrecido la panadería como un lugar de reunión para eventos como una lectura de poesía por parte de migrantes guatemaltecos y proyecciones de películas al aire libre en el callejón adyacente»

«Juárez artist and baker, Jorge "Yorch" Pérez, finds poetry in portraying social protest and border identity through his two great passions: art and bread.
Pérez is a founding member of the binational art collective Colectivo Rezizte, active on the border since 2003. Last week, he unveiled a new mural called “Under the Bridge” on the concrete riverbank wall just west of the Paso del Norte Bridge.
Inspiration for the mural, which depicts a pair of hands extending from the bridges on either side of the border to grasp each other, came from the ongoing issue of migration and what Pérez calls the “complete rejection” of people desperate to enter the United States.
“Bread is a thousand-year-old tradition. Bread is an excellent representation of the migration of people, the recipes, all that is related to the movement of people,” he said.
In 2019, Pérez opened his own bakery, named after the art collective, on Avenida 16 de Septiembre. Panadería Rezizte directly supports migrants by donating bread almost daily to various shelters in Juárez. Pérez has also offered the bakery as a gathering place for events such as a poetry reading by Guatemalan migrants and outdoor film screenings in the adjacent alley.»
